A technological card to establish the identity of Sri Lankan citizens
The Department for Registration of Persons working in new directions through several changes along with the technological development is going to introduce a new identity card with highly secured characteristics, called Interim National Identity Card of ICAO standards in the near future to establish the identity of Sri Lankan citizens.
It has been decided to issue this interim National Identity Card with a new outlook deviating from the traditional system of issuing the secured card prevailed from 1972 where the identity card was manually written and issued in Sinhala and Tamil languages from February 28.2014. The Department believes that this highly secured program will ensure that the identity of a person will be accurately and credibly established because it is issued with photographs of ICAO standards and all data in the card will be printed in all 3 languages, i.e. Sinhala, Tamil and English.
