Taking Photographs with the standard of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

Our Department issues an Identity Card in compliance with internationally recognized criteria at present. The photograph includes for Identity Card shall be in compliance with the standards of International Civil Aviation Organization.

How do the ICAO Standard photographs be taken?

  1. Three copies of a photograph of size 45 mm (height) x 35mm (Width),

    In a light blue color background,
    Directly facing the camera,
    Opening the eyes and visible them clearly
    With neutral expression shutting the mouth without smiling and without any facial expression and as to visible eyes clearly through the spectacles or contact lenses (without reflection of light) shall be submitted for the new identity card.

  2. In addition to the above criteria, the technical facts (such as properly focusing the light to the photograph) shall be fulfilled.

  3. One shall go to a photo studio registered under the Department for Registration of Persons to take photographs of the above standard.

In taking photographs under this methodology,

  1. A hard copy of the photograph will not be provided to the applicant. A photograph reference slip, bearing the QR code of the machine readable photograph number and printed photograph of the applicant, is issued by the photo studio to the applicant.
  2. The photo studio submits the relevant photograph online to the Department for Registration of Persons.
  3. Such Photograph reference slip shall be submitted to the Grama Niladhari.
  4. This photograph is valid only for 06 months with effect from the date it takes.
