Verification of National Identity Card Information relevant to the online system (NIC LOOKUP System)
The Department of Registration of Persons has already started providing a secure web
service as an interim service until the automatic verification of personal information directly
into the computer systems of external organizations is implemented in the near future through
the Electronic National Identity Card project. Accordingly, through this service, with the consent
of the individual, we will automatically provide the information on the National Identity Card to
external organizations registered in the Department through an online system, ensuring the
privacy of the individual.
Since our department only provides the computerized information related to the National
Identity Card number securely, we do not hold the responsibility for the decisions made by the
relevant institutions based on that information, and the relevant institutions are responsible for
the decisions made regarding their functions. At present, the process of issuing ID cards is done
through a computerized data system, and a significant amount of information related to
National ID cards, which was done using human labour before 2014, has now been added to
the data system.
In the event that a person has been informed by a financial institution or any other institution that the identity card information is not available in the departmental data system while fulfilling the service requirements, an inquiry could be made from the Department in this regard through the telephone numbers 011 52261623 and 0115226164, or by sending a
request to the email address niclookup.ccu@drp.lk along with the identity card issued to the
concerned person, birth certificate, and the telephone number through which the institution
that has notified to make the inquiry could be contacted.
